Description of Program: Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters
(YBBBS) enhances the lives of children through quality mentoring
relationships. The children range in age between 5 and 16, the
majority being from single parent homes, and all need friendship,
support and one-on-one attention from caring mentors. These volunteers
share some fun and provide encouragement to these boys and girls.
The YBBBS School Big program matches volunteers with a child
at the school of their choice. School Bigs see their School Littles
once a week during the school year for one hour. Community-based
matches provide more interaction by allowing Bigs to see their
Littles outside of school. Bigs are asked to get together with
their Littles a couple of times a month for a few hours at a
time. A one-year commitment is required. YBBBS operates a VIP
program in cooperation with Juvenile Justice. This program provides
Bigs for kids who have had their first "run in" with
Juvenile Justice. Bigs in this program understand the importance
of reaching these kids quickly, helping them make better decisions
and building self esteem. YBBBS offices are located in Prescott,
Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Cottonwood, Camp Verde and Sedona
and serve Yavapai County and Sedona.
