Description of Program: The Adolescent Pregnancy and Parenting Program (APPP) serves youth of the Tempe Union High School District who are pregnant or parenting. The mentoring program is designed to provide support to these teens, help with retaining pregnant and parenting teenagers in school, and increase the competence and skills of young parents to care for their infants. Mentors and mentees commit for one year, meeting 10 hours per month. The program is community based. Mentors and mentees meet outside of school, on their own schedule and enjoy activities of their choice. Mentors provide social and emotional support and/or academic support.

Location: Currently there are programs based at 14 school and community sites in Phoenix, Tempe and Tucson.

Duration of Program: Students are enrolled in the fifth grade and participate in the program until their graduation from high school. Mentors are asked to commit for at least 1 year.

Description of Program: Arizona Quest for Kids (AQFK) provides students with one-on-one mentoring, enrichment opportunities, and college guidance. Enrolled in the fifth grade, students are paired with a caring adult mentor who supports their academic and personal development. College and career-focused enrichment opportunities, field trips and community service activities are an integral part of the program. In addition, Arizona Quest for Kids provides educational workshops and resource referrals to families, as they support their child's pursuit of a college education. Upon successful completion of high school, having maintained a 3.0 grade point average, remained drug free and crime-free, and met AQFK program requirements, the student receives a scholarship up to the equivalent of a four-year tuition at an Arizona university. Currently, there are approximately 300 students participating in the Arizona Quest for Kids program at 14 school and community sites in the greater metropolitan Phoenix and Tucson.

Description of Program: The A.C.E. Club is a program that helps students, who feel unsuccessful in school, focus on Achievement and Character for Excellence, and is the Kyrene School District's answer to addressing the needs of the students with the greatest issues. With the determined needs in mind, the A.C.E. Club was designed as an innovative prevention program intended to promote student success by addressing self-esteem, study/organizational skills, and specific academic content area skills. This project is an opportunity for failing students, their parents and teachers to work together to ensure continuous growth, academic improvement and overall student success by encouraging cooperation and teaming concepts and connecting students with adult mentors. The program is housed at all six middle schools and includes approximately twenty 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and three certified teachers as volunteer A.C.E. Club instructors from each school site.
