Description of Program: Arizona Project Challenge is an intervention program for youth-at-risk who drop out of high school. The program consists of a 5- month Residential Phase and a 12- month Post Residential Mentoring Phase. During the Residential Phase students live and train in a military-style environment. Participants learn self-discipline, leadership and responsibility utilizing a unique combination of classroom work, community service, physical training and challenging individual and team activities. Participants complete requirements for a General Education Development (G.E.D.) Certificate. After completion of the Residential Phase, students are mentored for one year, generally by a hand-picked member of the mentee's community. Mentors act as role models and meet regularly with their Project ChalleNGe mentee to nurture and encourage them in attaining their goals. Mentors are carefully screened and interviewed before a match.
