Description of Program: Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are citizens making significant contributions to the community by becoming actively involved in protecting the rights of abused, neglected, and abandoned children. Appointed by a juvenile court judge, CASA volunteers are specially trained to speak up independently, objectively, and passionately, on behalf of the vulnerable children who flow into the overburdened child protection system. CASA volunteers (mentors) research cases, assess facts, identify key problems, and submit court reports that summarize critical information. They attend court hearings, provide insight to the judge and recommend actions in the best interest of the children.
