volunteers, children and communities are tremendously enriched
through community service. Elders give back to their communities,
feel useful, appreciated, loved and enjoy teaching and socializing
with the children daily. Elders care tremendously to carry on
Navajo culture, history and language to the young generation.
The program fulfills its purpose of having an intergenerational
connection and activities within communities. Power Hour
Year Established: 2002 Location: Chinle Boys & Girls Club and in the community Duration of Program: 9 Months Description of Program: Power Hour is a program designed to strengthen reading, writing, and study skills of children 6-18 years of age who are Boys & Girls Club of Chinle members. Mentors are matched with small groups of mentees to work with them in reading and writing book reports, writing in their journals, and assisting with homework. Boys and Girls Club staff supervise and assist with Power Hour activities. The Boys & Girls Club of Chinle also sponsors a Community based mentoring program in which mentors and mentees are matched one-on-one. Please call for more details.
